Da concertista \u00e8 un compositore e un suonatore di chiara fama di varie fogge di ba\u011flama; \u00e8 anche il direttore dell&#8217;Ensemble for Anatolian Music Cultures e membro del comitato scientifico del Centro culturale Atat\u00fcrk. Al centro della sua cifra artistica \u00e8 la volont\u00e0 di gettare ponti tra stili e orizzonti sonori diversi, cercando terreni comuni. Per il catalogo mediorientale dell\u2019etichetta piemontese Felmay, ha pubblicato \u201cThe Fountain\u201d (2008), \u201cBir.Turkish Musical Traditions\u201d (2011) in coppia con Ali Fuat Aydin e, con il DEM Trio, \u201cErguvan\u201d (2014), \u201cOte\u201d (2018) e \u201cAnatolian dances\u201d (2022). Non tradisce le attese \u201cSounds of Cycle\u201d, nuovo capitolo che si manifesta come un\u2019esplorazione della memoria culturale e musicale condivisa di Oriente e Occidente; registrato tra il 2019 e il 2023 in Turchia, porta come sottotitolo \u201cCirculating Melodies and Narratives Between East and west\u201d. Il polistrumentista si avvale della collaborazione di valenti strumentisti (\u2018\u016bd, yayli tambur, tambura, chitarra, violoncello, clarinetto, kemane, ney, percussioni e voci) per lanciarsi in un viaggio, non scevro di una forte connotazione visionaria, che attraversa epoche e luoghi. Cos\u00ec, l\u2019apertura \u00e8 \u201cSessiz\u201d, motivo autografo per solo saz, che vuole ricordare le migrazioni \u201csilenziose e dimenticate\u201d. Subito dopo arriva una gavotte di St.Colombe (1640-1700). Il programma prosegue con un \u201cHalay\u201d, trascritto dall\u2019armeno Padre Komitas (1869-1935) e da una \u201cPavane\u201d di epoca barocca di Gaspar Sanz (1640-1710), dialogo tra cura ba\u011flama e \u2018\u016bd. Oltre a temi tradizionali anatolici a ritmo di zeybek e composizioni dello stesso Cenk: su tutti, segnaliamo \u201cKizil Kartal Zeybe\u011fi\u201d, \u201cKeskin Halayi\u201d, daza raituale tradizionale della regione di Kir\u015fhir\/Keskin\u201d e il tradizionale di Milas\/Mu\u011fla \u201cYa\u011fmur Ya\u011fdi Zeybe\u011fi\u201d, quest\u2019ultimo uno zeybek dall\u2019incedere lento nel makam Hicaz, l\u2019ensemble riprende Georg Friedrich H\u00e4ndel (\u201cMinuet in G Minor) e \u201cLes Pleurs\u201d, un tema ricco di pathos attribuito ancora a St.Colombe, qui, suonato insieme all\u2019altrettanto melanconico \u201cNihavend Saz Smaisi\u201d del compositore originario della Crimea Gazi Giray Han (1551-1607), due brani accomunati da commossa intensit\u00e0. Subito dopo, sempre con ensemble allargato, Cenk G\u00fcray esegue il suo \u201cRequiem\u201d, mentre chiude questo ammaliante album con \u201cYar Yare Kar\u015fi\u201d, dove \u00e8 messa in musica una poesia alevita del genere \u201cmira\u00e7lama\u201d di \u015eah Ismail Hatay (1487-1524), cantato dal grande Ismail Hakki Demircio\u011flu, che simboleggia il Mi\u02bfr\u0101j, l\u2019ascesa ai sette cieli del Profeta.
